Let’s Talk About the B Word
You may not like it, but we are going to talk about the B word. Then just to change things up we are going to talk about the F word. We all know what the B word is, we see it every day, we hear about it everyday. For many of us it is the focus of all our days. We can never have enough of the B word. But I would contend we need to stop using the B word and start using the F word.
The Endless Cycle of Being “Busy”
You know what I’m talking about. The B word that applies to so many of us so often. In fact, I am just going to say it out loud because we all know what the B word is… BUSY. We’re all busy all the time. All of us running around to get things done, so many times feeling like we’re not getting anything done but at least we’re staying busy and that’s important, isn’t it? We must stay busy to get our jobs done. We must stay busy for our relationships. We must stay busy for appearances. We must stay busy for our friends.
What Are You Really Accomplishing?
Now here’s the real question in regard to all the time we spend being busy, for all the energy we expend being busy, for all the stuff we do being busy: How often do you feel like you’ve accomplished nothing of significance or importance? All that time you spent just running around being busy, and for what?
Introducing the F Word
Let’s talk about that other word, the F word. This is actually the stronger of the two words and needs much more attention, or at least it should. Then let me say it aloud, the F word is FOCUSED.
Aligning Your Energy with Your Goals
I strongly suggest, insist that you should replace the word Busy with the word Focused. Instead of just running around trying to get lots of things done, take a moment, pause and focus on what it is you’re really trying to get done. Instead of expending so much energy running around, focus your time, energy and efforts to accomplish the real goals for which you took a moment to define. Being busy keeps you busy but it doesn’t necessarily increase your productivity, and it may or may not advance you towards your goals.
Everything you are doing right now to be busy is to hopefully be focused towards something better, towards something greater than where you are now. Is it? If you answer no or maybe to that statement you really need to reevaluate your time and efforts. Do you take time to focus on why you are doing things? With Focus, you’re much more likely to advance in the direction you want versus just spinning in circles to be busy.
A Simple Challenge to Shift Your Mindset
I dare you today to take a moment stop, pause and think how tomorrow you can replace your B word with your F word.
