“If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.”
Dr Wayne Dyer
The parable of three bricklayers. Once there were three bricklayers. A traveler came upon the three men working. He asked each one of them what they were doing.
The first man angrily answered, ‘I’m laying bricks.
The second man replied, ‘I’m putting up a wall.
But the third man said enthusiastically and with pride, ‘I’m building a
cathedral.
They were all doing the same thing. The difference comes from their perspectives.
The first man had a job.
The second man had a career.
The third man had a calling.
We all have things we need to do: jobs, requirements, whatever you want to call it. And depending on the day we may view these as a job, a career or a calling. Let’s be honest, at some point we have all probably gone through all three emotions.
Every day we have a choice to make. This choice, our choice can have significant impact on us and those around us in many ways. Our choice will impact our attitude. Our attitude impacts those around us directly and/or indirectly.
The question to ask when making a choice is, are we viewing the task from the correct lens. What is your point of view, short term or long term.
As I journey through my own path of reflection, I find it helpful, actually needed, that I talk to and learn from others. I would like to hear your thoughts on this topic. Please feel free or e-mail me your thoughts, mason@masonvandyke.com
